Best of luck went out to Clodagh, Meave, Eileen and Marian, who, with Therese coxing, took on Ocean to City – An Rás Mór on Saturday 30 May.
Ocean to City is Ireland's biggest long-distance rowing and paddling race and the flagship event of the Cork Harbour Festival, with crews racing up Cork Harbour to the finish at Lapp's Quay in the city centre.
This year the weather had other ideas. The day before the race, with strong gusts forecast, the organisers cancelled the full 28km Ocean Course for the safety of the fleet and moved crews onto shorter routes up the harbour, warning that conditions would still be challenging. It was not a day for the faint-hearted.
Our crew rowed the 14 km course and finished in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 30 seconds.
Well done to the crew on taking on one of the toughest challenges in Irish rowing, and flying the purple for Rosscarbery in front of the crowds in Cork.
