On Friday 1 May, the club's home at the Lagoon in Rosscarbery was a hive of activity as around 200 children from more than 30 national schools took to the water in 61 crews for The Southern Star South West Coast Yawl Rowing Schools Regatta.
Schools from Castletownbere to Newcestown took part, and hundreds of spectators lined the Lagoon to cheer them on. The programme had ten children's races, plus an eleventh race for teachers, SNAs and a Southern Star crew.
The regatta gives children the chance to row with their classmates, represent their school and learn to work as a team. Rosscarbery Rowing Club's Jeff O'Donoghue was there on the day with South West Rowing chairman Michael Walsh.
For many of the children it was their first time racing, and for some it will be the start of a lifelong love of rowing. If your child caught the bug, juniors can join the club from age 10. See our Juniors page.
